Standard phone line modem are regulated by the FCC to 53.3 kbps max. You'll never see 256 with any type of hardware or software modification. The only thing you can really do is modify the mtu speed setting in the windows registry. This setting is by default set to work with high speed connections, not dailup. MTU stands for maximum transmitable units. Best setting for a dailup modem is 576. You can edit this manually or with
software like mtuspeed (which is freeware). If you want to try it out, you can download it from here. mtuspeed410.exe.

If it works, don't mess with it, don't tinker with it and don't break it.

Betamax: I'd be glad to get DSL... or Cable. Or even the beam? has anyone here heard of the beam before? Its gone now and was crap but it was fast. Sadly I live a little to far out of the Dallas/Ft. worth area for any of it. Instead its 56k ville.
