  1. hey, is there any other way to convert windows media files to mpeg rather than TMPGEnc? As it always crashes for me whenever the endcoding gets to 6% no idea why, all other file formats work totally fine, even DivX...

if anyone could help it would be really appreciated...

    thanks!

Go to the tools section and get Graphedit, D\L the guides, whatever support files are needed. It's a bit getting used to but works great

  3. If the files you are talking about are .wmv files, I have managed to convert the to Standard MPEG, simply by going to Nero Burning Rom, loading the VCD file option, and then dragginf the file over to the place where the files get dragged to, and then burn. Then this does the encoding for you, and makes it MPEG, on a vcd.

  4. hi Hawthorn

A friend of mine told me that this works but I never tried. Does it also work with SVCD? An how long does it take to convert? I use an 1800er Atlon.

    Thanks

  5. I have never tried converting to SVCD, because I can't play them on my dvd player. I have noticed that the newer versions of Nero Burning Rom that I have used, you need an SVCD Plugin that needs to be purchased seperately to use SVCD. With how long it takes to encode, it depends. Like I encoded a 60 minute file the other day, and it took me about 50 minutes. Yet I encoded a 120 minute file and it took me about 2 and a half hours. I have a 1.8ghz processor, but I do have 1024mb of Ram which does make a difference to some things, so possibly that helps with the speed. Because I know on my old computer that had 128mb of Ram, it used to take me 1 and a half hours for one of the processes of ripping a dvd, and now with more ram it takes between 1 and a half and 6 minutes. Encoding with that amount of RAM and a 1.8ghz processor, makes it so I encode at around about 1mb in 1 minute compared to with my old computer (950mhz and 128mb of RAM) it took about 7 or 8 hours to encode a movie. Another way of encoding, is by using TmpgEnc which is fairly easy to use, but the demo version has limitations to it, so you would either get the full version for 100% usage.

The Nero way of encoding, is about 1 hour encoding for 1 hour of video (approximately) it seems to vary for what the quality of the file is like.

  6. Using the CCE Encoder it took me about 6 hours using 3-pass to encode an 90min movie. I use an 1,8GHz with (only) 256mb RAM. That was even faster than TMPEG whitch took abaut 8-9 hours. Hmm. So I have to increase my RAM a little bit.

Well if I have to buy the SVCD-plugin I have to tak in consideration to do it another way. The PRoblem is that in former times I encoded a lot of movies in .wmf/wmv. And now I have a standalone and want to watch them on TV. SO I have to reencode them. The other Method is to reencode with Mediaencoder, then use VDub and convert to AVI, the encode the whole thing to mpeg2 using TMPEG or CCE. And this all is boring, long lasting stuff.

OK. Perhaps I get an demo version af the plugin and give it a try.
