    Is it possible to convert wav to DD 5.1. The reason I ask is because the audio file wou be smallertherefore leaving more space on the dvd-r. Hope this is not a stupid question.

    yes you can convert ... you will need to purchase a ac3 encoder though (software or hardware) , software starts about $400 for 5:1
