  1. I'll put my CVDs on DVD as soon as writers get cheapper, so i want to encode correctly.

Does the DVD-Video format support 1/2D1 resolution 23.976+pulldown (Film) or 'true' 29.97 (NTSC) ?

  2. Personally I like 352x480 29.97 ntsc and 224 audio for cvcd's. Works great in my player and alot of my friends player. At 23.976 I sometimes have a sync. problem.

Yes SVCD and SVCD support ntscfilm (23.976fps) with 3:2 pulldown and this is most definitely how you should author these formats as you get a dramatic increase in quality. You will also encounter less problems down the line when converting to DVD if you use ntscfilm.

kjmacke: If you get sync problems with ntscfilm SVCDs or CVDs then you might be encoding/processing your film incorrectly. I have never heard of a hardware player that had any trouble with this format, since it is what almost all NTSC DVDs use. You should definitely try to work out the kinks because 29.97fps is incredibly inefficient and should not be used if possible.

  4. Also, you might want to have your audio already at 48khz if your current players support it. One less hassle when it comes to convert it again

Also, I suggest you have your "frames per GOP" set to 15 (PAL) or 18 (NTSC) depending on where you live.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

  6. ... Talking about GOP size, 18 means e.g. IBBPBBPBBPBBPBBPBB, or at least 18 frames/GOP right ?
But CCE 2.62 setting M/N value is set to max 5 (5.3=15<18).
Even if its compactible with the standard, it's "wasting" space (not talking about picture quality), because of excessive I-frames/sec. Any issue ?

    Thx for help.
    sry, I'm not english speaking...
