I have Mydvd 3.5 and have the option of capturing straight to mpeg2 or in the show biz editor I can capture to avi. Im trying to put my home videos to dvd. I read in a couple of other posts that capturing vhs and 8mm,hi-8 is a wast to capture straight to mpeg2 because the resolution is to big.
So would I get better quality if I captured my old vids to an avi at 360x480 resolution edit it then transcode it to mpeg2 ?

Any help would be greatly apreaciated.

    HI jra111,

Last week I capture several VHS to avi, convert them to MPG2 at 352 x 480 using tmpgenc and then then burned my dvd and it looks exactly as the VHS...

From the limited experience I have I understand you would have to spend a small fortune to capture to mpeg2 in a quality to match huffyuv/picvideo codec avi's.
It's a much longer process, but the end result by capturing to avi and converting/encoding would ultimately be worth it.
