  1. I just purchased Princo 2X and am using these to burn on a recently purchased cendyne DVR-105. The DVR-105 will only burn these up to about the last quarter inch of the outside edge, thus only about 90% of my project gets burned. The DVR-105 green light stays on and I need to shut down the computer to get the disc out. Is this a function of using cheap media and I need to try other media, or is it something wrong with the writer and I need to wait for a firmware upgrade and if so will the firmware upgrade for the pioneere A05 work?

Does anyone have any experiences with other media (Ritek?)in this drive?

    Thanks

    Eeej kitzj0,

My PioneerA05 burns Princo 2speed media succesfull (using Nero),
HOWEVER sometimes the discs won't play in all standalones, the movie gets kind of shockie near the end of some discs...

I use Nero DVD Speed to check the burned Princo 2speed DVD-R's. Offcourse in another DVD-ROM player than the PioneerA05 itself. 1 in 6 is a bad disc and I can't play it in standalones...same goes for the Datasafe/Datawrite media I use....1 in 10 won't play in standalones...

Conclusion : Cheap media sucks with an A05, you always have to check them afterwards (8 minutes extra)

    greets,

  4. Just an update.

I had been burning the Princo's I purchased using Studio 8. The Maxells 2X were burning with no problem, however, when I burned the princo using this program, it locked the burner up about 90% of the way in so I thought it was the burner not liking the media.

Tonight, I burned a disc image to my hard drive with Studio 8, then used Nero Express to burn the image and it worked perfectly. This seems strange to me, but thought this method was worth a try.

  6. I've had some strange issues as well with my 105 as well. (I'm using the 1.21 Firmware.)

It certainly appears that each burning program has a preference for certain types of media. (Not the drive or firmaware???) NERO doesn't like the Memorex -R or Fuji -r but is happy with Memorex -RW and Imation -R. Alchohol and RecordNow Max have worked will all media I've tried. But a couple DVD authoring programs like Studio and DVD Workshop have also been very picky about the media.

The strange thing is when I run into a problem the burning never completes. The software just hangs my system causing me to have to power off the computer to recover.

  7. I have been using Ritek 4X DVD-R now for the past month on my A05 witout any problems. I use Ulead Movie Factory and have not had 1 problem. I used Princo DVD-RW and can format and even burn but my A05 can not see anything in the drive after that.

hehe yourself. What is your experience with +R, not RW? Will the +RW work in standalone DVD players? If not, then it's useless for most people who want to be able to play their discs on something other than the computer...

  12. Princo had a very bad bad batch of 2x. Instead of recalling the vendors sold them cheaper. They sometimes work and sometimes don't. They only work on certain dvd players too. Went back to using 1x Princos. Waiting for Riteks they are way better. but still have about 50 2xs left.

  13. again its the -R's with the burners, pioneer and sony seem to have problems with the cheaper media, even if you do get them to burn playback is a whole nother issue, can't belive all the playback problems I see from the cheaper media coming from the Pioneer and Sony camp, I usually have to reburn them with my HP +R burner so they will not only playback correctly in my DVD players but other DVD players also.
Now after helping my brother out for about 3-4 weeks with his Sony 500UL, we finally com across a combination that works with the cheap media

    Smartripper 2.41
    DVD2ONE
    recordnow DX 4.6

Forget dycrpter, DVDxCOPY or any version of NERO, nothing else will work with this SONY. This combo will allow playback even in his XBOX and PS2.
Now my HP +R can use any media and any program I have thrown at it, have not found anything I can't use with it yet. Inlcuding any and every blank media I can get my hands on.

    Interesting.
Thanks for the info about the bad batch.

I had no problems with most of my Princo 2X media, but one of them (burned right after upgrading to A05 1.21) didn't work properly; it was a full 4.37 gigs though...
The next (and last) one burned fine at 2X and played fine as well, in the same player that wouldn't play the previous one.

I am a bit concerned about their long term longevity...

Waiting for my Fuji media (bought on sale) to arrive now
