A sad state when...

The whole forum seems to be porn jokes and new ways to spell the common four letter curse word. This forum has become quite childish lately. I am sure some one will prove my point by describing me with a four letter word, then say that I have no verbal skills, write in some foreign dialect to my own, and have a signature that refers to another four letter word or masterbation. The forum is just in a "phase" that hopefully it will grow out of. I mean, wow you can spell words with .s in them and make your curse words seem that much more effective. I am not impressed. If you were 7 and could type that well, sure that's cool, but no one here is 7. Flame on!

I am pretty new to this forum and I joined hoping to get info and give info on VCD's and SVCD's, but you are right if this childest stuff does not stop I am gonna go looking other places where people are serious about helping each other out than putting everyone down.
By the way in case someone is trying to read anything into my user name "thxkid" I was given this nickname long ago because I was and still crazy about any Lucas THX certfied system or Laser Discs, DVD's. I even purchased a Kenwood THX certfied Receiver, hence the name I was given.

Relax guys. This forum is open to all. It's a great source for information. If you don't agree with some of the things being posted, just ignore them. There are more good people in these forums than bad people.

this is a familiar sentiment that i think i have expressed in the past myself. however i will now defend this board. as i see it there are 2 problems that cause the childish behavior on this forum, one reason is 'their' fault and one reason is 'our' fault.

there are many people that use these forums for no other reason than to be condecending towards others. somehow these people are under the impresion that the ability to make a vcd makes them better than others. now here is the catch, as has been pointed out to me before, those people dont matter if you ignore them. if you have a valid question and you post it in the correct forum it will get answered despite the idiots that simply have to flame.

there is another problem on these forums that 'we' as newbies to the forums are responsible for and it breeds such contempt from the regulars that often the result is the helpfull people wont even answer questions. what i am referring to here is the inability of some newbies to search for a topic or to even read the first page of posts from others. many regulars see it as disrespectfull when a newbie asks a question that has been answered several times before.

another perspective on that situation is the philosophy of "why should i help someone that is not even willing to help themself". that IMO is completely justified. if you read the content on this site you can find virtually any answer that you seek, but your gona have to do the work. many people that come here would rather just post a question without reading anything and wait for someone to bring the answer to them. when they get replies of "you are an idiot" rather than wonder why they just got called an idiot they assume that its time for a flame war.

when i first started using the forums here i got into the silly pissing contests with the regulars untill i eventually shut my stupid mouth and tried reading instead of talking. well guess what, after some reading i realized the topics i was asking about were thouroughly covered in the content of the site.

this is the most informative forum around for VCD but there is an expectation that you learn the basics on your own. the childish banter is a side effect of lazy newbies that expect someone to explain everylast thing to them. if you want to see what a childish flame forum really looks like go visit http://www.isonews.com and read a few posts, you will come running back here for the technical expertise available.
