  1. I am having a problem converting a WMV file to an XVCD with TMPGEnc 2.59.

I have been able to create a VCD with the software from the same WMV and I can create an XVCD but there are some problems. I have created a standard VCD format with both the project wizard and the manual way. The only adjustment I am making is doubling the bitrate. I followed the instructions given at this site for creating a XVCD with TMPGEnc.

I am able to view the XVCD on my DVD player once I have burned it with NERO 5.5 but if I fast forward things go wonky. The video continues to play but audio dissapears and the timer doubles (I have a Toshiba 2150 DVD player). I have succesfully played a doubled bitrate XVCD on the machine that I created directly out of Ulead 5.0 (I'm using MovieMaker 2.0 to make the WMV because I find the video quality is actually better once converted).

The funny thing is that when I place the XVCD in NERO it thinks it is a compliant MPEG-1 which it definitely isn't and it gives a duration of twice what it should be (which is probably why the DVD player screws up). When I place the Ulead created XVCD it says it is not compliant and gives the correct duration.

Has anyone had a problem like this with TMPGEnc?

I can play around with more settings but I am fairly confident I am doing things correctly.

Another thing I could do is probably just read the WMV into Ulead and spit it out as an XVCD from there but I suspect I wouldn't get as great video quality.

In Nero, you should uncheck "Create Standard Compliant CD". You could also burn your XVCD's with VCDEasy. :P

  3. I had unchecked the Compliant CD when I was making the XVCD. I put the compliant test to see if the file was thought to be VCD or XVCD. The XVCD file I create with ULEAD says it is not compliant (which is expected) the XVCD file I create with TMPGEnc says it is compliant (which it shouldn't be ... and yes I have checked the Video CD non-standard format in TMPGEnc).

I just tried the XVCD I created with ULEAD and realize I have the same problem with fast forwarding on my dydplayer. It too goes out of sync although it doesn't show the same issues that the MM2.0+TMPGEnc XVCD does when adding to Nero).

Could this be a problem with the DVD player? It can play XVCDs but not properly fast forward them? (As I mentioned above there seem to be no problems with VCD).

Try burning your XVCD with VCDEasy as VCDEasy creates (X)VCD's with no problems.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P
