  1. I'm just getting ready to try frameserving from TMPGEnc to CCE - I've never tried it before and I'm hoping I can get few questions answered.

for this example lets say I have a DivX file and the audio has been converted to WAV

do I then put them both into TMPGEnc - start the frameserver (not sure how to do that yet) - I start VFAPI from somewhere.

then do I open that VFAPI AVI in CCE and then convert?

do the settings I put into TMPGEnc (such as resize and source range) get sent to CCE via the VFAPI ?

Can I use CCE 2.62 with VFAPI or does it have to be CCE 2.5

Does AVISynth come in to play somewhere here?

Is there a guide for any of this? I couldn't find one - that being the reason for my post.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

That's a lot of stuff. I guess, you want to use TMPG to resize. Correct me if I'm wrong. Then open the divx in TMPG, set source range and resize and then save the projekt (.tpr). Convert this project to *vfapi.avi. This one add to cce's encoder list. This method workes with both 2.62 and 2.50.
2nd way: Open the divx in VirtualDub, set source range and resize and start the frameserver. Add the renamed AVI to cce's encoder list. This workes with v.2.50 only.
3rd way: Use Avisynth to resize and frameserve to CCE. Here you have to use the CCE sourcerange. This work with v.2.50 only.
Do the audio encoding seperatly, use tooLAME and multiplex after that with bbMPEG or TMPG.
    Hope this helps to start.

  3. Great! thanks for the reply.

which do you prefer? I'm familier enough with both TMPGEnc and VirtualDub to use either 1 or 2 --- do you prefer one over the other?

If I have a captured avi source, I prefer VirtualDub to edit and frameserve, also I prefer the Vdub filters rather than TMPG's. It takes a little longer than the TMPG method, but I think it is worth the time.
If I convert dvd rips, there is only one way to go: Avisynth and MPEG2DEC, fast and excellent method.
