I have been using Virtual Dub since 2 years ago, I never had a chance to encode my video capture card to mpeg, instead to avi. Its a quite messy if to avi file. When is the new version will be coming ?
I propose that Virtual Dub Organisation to have a mpeg codec install so more people to use it. The Divx codec is a new codec that is capable to have instead avi. Suggest that V.dub is more flexible.

I usually capture to Divx then convert later to Mpeg. Realtime mpeg capturing would result in thousand of lost frames using my 850mhz duron. -
I am glad your answer but the time constrain.
I we choose to do a double job, then quality will drop right,,
Isnt it be easier and faster if straight encode it to mpg.
I dont want to play divx. -
Not unless you capture with TMPGEnc. That is THE BEST free mpg encoder. But you can't, no realtime mpg encoders will have the same quality as TMPGEnc. If its quality your worried about use Huffyuv, or MJPEG codecs. They have very good quality but not very good compression.
hope this helps -
go to vdubs web site and READ!!!
vdub will not support mpeg caps.
capping straight to mpeg-1 sucks, the qual is awfull"The software said Win XP or better, so I Installed Linux"
