  1. Hello all,
I was wondering what the "best" software for a newbie to backup a DVD to VCD where the optimal picture/audio quality is obtained for a inputted number of CDs. For instance, if I want to copy onto 2 CDs, the program will optimize the quality to fit onto the 2 CDs. Similarly, if I want to copy onto 3 CDs, the program will optimize the quality to fit completely onto the 3 CDs.

I believe that DVD Copy Plus just copies the DVD onto a CD without the option of selecting how many CDs that you want to optimize for. I understand that one can play around with the bitrate, etc. to enlarge files so that they fit into a chosen number of CDs but I am looking for a program that will automatically do this.

I also believe that DVD Squeeze gives you an option of choosing either 1 or 2 CD to copy to. Can anyone tell me if the space on that 2 CD is completely maximized so that the "best picture" is obtained?

Is there any other programs (again for a newbie) which would do this?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. You can use a bitrate calculator to determine the optimum bitrate for a given number of cd's and length of movie. See the tools section for bitrate calculators.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

However, I am looking for a software where the only thing I have to input is the number of CDs that one is going to use and everything else (like the space utilized on the CD) will be optimized . As I am a newbie, I am uneasy about using any "calculator" and changing any input to a program like DVD Copy Plus, etc. which I have little understanding what they do. Thanks again for your help!
