    I found problemas with Pinnacle DV500 DVD, this board comes with Adobe Premiere 6.5, and in the Capture Video section, when i click on Record Video, after 2s the software show the message: "An error occured during capture", and nothig more.

    I try to capture video (analog) in other software that I are familiarized (Eg. VirtualDub), but nothing is detected, no board!

    Anyone can help me?

    Thanks!

    When I press "Capture" nothing is shown, the size of the file does not up, and when I click "Stop" the file (about 3mb) is deleted...

    The analog image is created by a VHS 4 Head Cassete player that shows image ok PAL-M and NTSC on any TV, but in the software (Premiere) is allways shown in B&W, and nothing is recorded when I press the record video button.

    I ship this board (DV500 DVD) for doing VCDs and SVCDs at this point, to create DVDs in the future.

    HI, Xunda

    What about the quality of the mpeg2? Are the captures good?
    I am planing to buy a HAUPPAUGE WINTV-PVR 250 (PCI) and Premiere 6.5, but I think the DV500 DVD will be a better deal. What do you think?

    Regards,

    Jose

    I don't have any DV Device to connect on the BlueBox, I'm using only the A/V connector to convert analog records to (S)VCDs, but no success.

    Point 1.
    The DVD 500 series of PCI cards do not capture in MPEG1 or 2 - they capture in Pinnacle DV (DV2 standard) regardless of whether the input to the blue box comes from an analogue or digital source. The DV500 has an onboard hardware encoder chip which allows the Adobe time line to be exported in MPEG format.

    Point 2.
    What driver version is being used, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 or 4.5 ? If you are using Adobe 6.5 you need to have the v4.5 drivers.

    Point 3.
    The Adobe 6.5 must be installed prior to installing the DV 500 software and drivers. When correctly installed the Windows Device Manager should show the following three items:-

    IEEE1394 Bus host contollers ->
    Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

    Sound,video and game controllers ->
    Pinnacle Systems DV500 E4
    Pinnacle Systems DV500 Overlay

    All of these devices should have the same interrupt number and must on no account share with the graphic or sound cards.

    Point 4.
    Use the Pinnacle DV Expert to see if the DV500 card has been recognised.
    Do not switch on cameras or tape decks until Windows has started - this avoids Windows finding an external device and trying to load its own camera driver.

    Point 5.
    Try using DV Tools for capturing. I always use this in preference to the Adobe capture, which even when set-up properly, does not always work.
    An additional advantage of DV Tools is that it has a facility for capturing still pictures which are perfectly deinterlaced and which can later be used for title and menu creation.

    The DV500 is not for the faint hearted - it can be very difficult to set-up, however the results are well worth it !

    Hope this helps, Dick.

    Hi,

    What does the "MPEG2 import for re-editing of DVD projects with intelligent rendering " means?

    I got it from the DV500 DVD specs...

  11. I agree with the previous post that the DV500 is not for the faint hearted. The DV500 is the DC30's replacement and BOTH cards are a blast if set up properly. IMO, I'd rather get the DV500 over the WinTV PVR anytime, anyday. AS they say, use Scenalyser live until virtualdub supports it. The DV500 has a huge installed base and being as popular as the DC30 cards, it should be supported in time...

    The hardware encoder on the DV500 is for rendering the DV codec and not Mpeg2. That part is that it will allow you to import Mpeg2 into the adobe time line and render only the part that changes, saving you time. Hence, intelligent rendering. The DV500 is by no means a hardware encoder card ( You might want to check out the Matrox RTX100 / Canopus DVStorm2 / Mp20 for that feature)

    I havent tried the DV500 for a really long capture but if it's as good as my DC30, it should handle the 3hr long clips that I'll throw at it without sync problems.
