  1. I have a downloaded avi file, and after it gets to the 22 minute and 57 second part of the file, and freezes, and then the time is still counting up. However, if I let the file get to a second before the bit that freezes, and then drag the bar forward that moves the time along in windows media play, a little bit past where the file freezes, it will play again. When it gets to the part that freezes, if I let it be for a few seconds, it comes up with the error message Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).

If I burn it to VCD, it gets to the part that freezes, and that is where the vcd burns as far as.

It seems to me that it is only a couple of frames that are faulty that is making the file not work properly. So does anybody out there know how I can fix these couple of frames that are faulty or delete them, so that then the whole file can be put to a fully working vcd

PLEASE HELP IF YOU KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AS IT IS DRIVING ME MAD AND I'VE BEEN TRYING FOR WEEKS TO FIX IT!

    THANKS IN ADVANCE.

First of all, you can't take an AVI and just "burn it to VCD". There's encoding to MPEG1 required, and this is probably where your problem starts. The AVI obviously contains bad frames, and these has to be removed before encoding can be done. Take a look at the EDIT HOW TO: How to repair downloaded video clips or fix audio sync problems

In short: let VirtualDub check for bad frames and cut them out.

  3. Doesn't this mean that your avi is not downloaded completly and part after freez is missing ???

  4. To do with Virtual Dub, how can you get it so that it to delete the damaged frames, because when I try converting it in Virtual Dub, it comes up with an error message and won't go any further, than the part that freezes. Usually when I have an avi file, I would just drag it into Nero Burning Rom, and then let it do all the neccessary converting, but with this file it won't completely do all the converting after I view it on my dvd player.

For donpedro, the file is completely downloaded, it's just the file has some faulty frames on it, that need to be got rid of or fixed or whatever can be done with them.

Thanks for the help, I will view the file, and see if I can fix the problem, but if in th meantime anyone else reads this post, and can help with either the Virtual Dub question or the main post question please do.

Try to fix the AVI with some of the tools found under TOOLS -> Repair/Converters (DivXFix, DivX AntiFreeze).

I had the same problem about a month ago.
Virtualdub would not find it when I scanned for bad frames.

What I eventually ended up doing was just removing the bad frame in tmpge settings.. under the advanced tab, source range; I moved the slide bar to just before the bad frame, set it as start point, then slid the bar just past the bad frame and set as end point. - then I just deleted selected frames.
