  1. I have a Sony TRV-50 camcorder, and when I transferred the video from the camcorder to computer, the format of the video extension was ".dv"

Does anyone know if this is same as "avi" or is this something Sony has created on there own (something Sony alway does for some stupid reason)? If anyone know of the answer, please help!!!

oh, and one more thing. What is the quality rating of a ".dv" file???

    Thanks in advance,
    Thanks,

  2. A DV video file is just a compressed AVI. The quality of DV video files are excellent. Far superior to even DVD MPEG2 video. It's basically a raw AVI file that is compressed 5 times, so instead of 60Gb per hour it occupies les than 13GB per hour.

  3. I think that .dv is a format that is recognized by QuickTime (Apple). If you use DVIO (in the tools section) or Windows Movie Maker to import your DV video, you will get an avi file.
