  1. Hello,

Can I take the straight Mpeg1 clips captured from WinTv2000, and burn them to VCD without converting the files to something else first? The reason I ask is that I have gotten “great” quality capturing from WinTv2000 compared to the raw AVI clips from VirtualDub. Also, can these Mpeg clips be edited/saved/burned? Or do I have to convert the files after they have been edited.

    Thank you in advance.

If the WinTv2000 MPEG-1 files meet the VCD specification of:

    NTSC

    1150 kbit/sec
    352 x 240 pixels
    29,97 frames/second
    23,976 frames/second NTSC Film
    Audio:
    224 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2

    PAL

    1150 kbit/sec MPEG-1
    352 x 288 pixels
    25 frames/second
    Audio:
    224 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2

    then yes.

Maybe I should have put explained in a little more detail. If the WinTv2000 MPEG-1 meets the VCD specification I outlined, then yes the file can be burned strait to VCD format on CD without any additional encoding. You can save the files to your hard drive in the normal way. You can edit them with any program that can edit MPEG-1 files. They do have to be burned by software that has some sort of VCD setting, such as VCDEasy or Nero.

  4. Hwoodwar,

    Thank you.

Apparently the WinTv2000 capture does not meet the above standards because Nero didn’t accept the .mpg file. I found a link on this site for capturing with the WinTv PVR card, and followed the instructions exactly.

I captured the test clip, downloaded/installed TMPGEnc 2.5, and did the Simple Multiplex operation on the test clip as described in the instructions. That went ok. I pulled the file back into Nero, and successfully burned the test clip .mpg file to a VCD. Unfortunately I was unable to get my DVD player to recognize the disk. I tried a few more times with different disks, but the player will not see the VDC.

I know the player sees VCDs, because I have burned slide shows to VCD via ProShow Gold.

Could you or anyone suggest what I might be doing incorrectly? Thanks in advance,

  5. Sorry, just realized I have Nero 5.0. Instructions call for 5.5+.

  6. It's way too late for me! I have Nero 5.5.9.0 after all, and I have followed all of the instructions under the How To capture and burn a VCD with the WinTv2000 capture software.

Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you and good night.

  7. I got the player to see and play the disk after I put a menu on the disk first. Thanks.
