i have a .avi i'm trying to edit. vdub gives me this error: "couldn't locate decompressor. vdub requires a (vfw) compressor codec to decompress video. direct show codecs such as the ones used by windows media player are not suitable". what does that mean? and can i fix or adjust something so that i can edit this .avi file i'm working on?

sounds like the video codec for your avi file isn't installed correctly, is it a divx???, maybe you should try reinstalling the video codec.
