This is a question for the lawyers out there. Since DVD Maestro is no longer offered for purchase, is it legal to make use of the program without a liscense? Anyone care to comment?

Apple purchased the Spruce technology and the rights to it. Therefore, it is not 'abandonware', but is instead being used as the core technology for future Apple authoring products. Don't forget that there are still many licensed users out there, who paid thousands of dollars for Spruce workstations with the Maestro software at their core. They'd be pretty cheesed off if Maestro then became 'free' to users who had not invested in it.
