  1. Hello,

I tried to follow instructions from other postings in order to convert PAL to NTSC DVDs using TMPGEnc. However, the result is not as expected. The output plays quicker than normal and it does not play smoothly (is kind choppy - like is missing frames constantly). Also, how do I perform a polldown (I have the software but I don't know how to use it)?

I know I will need to convert the Audio too but for now I would like to concentrate on the video only.

    Any help is appreciated.

When I framerate convert a PAL to something else, I choose the closest framerate which is 23.976fps. If you choose 29.97fps, you might notice very fast audio and video which may not play very smoothly. If you framerate convert it to 23.976fps, the length will be very close to the source. Usually converting from a PAL to NTSC (Film) results in the output MPEG 2-3 minutes longer which isn't bad at all in my opinion!!!

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

    Pulldown C:\Movie23976.mpv C:\Pulldown2997.mpv

Quite simple just tell what the 23.976 source is followed by the desired name for the 29.97 fps output.
If you stretched your 25 fps sound to match 23.976 fps you should have used 104.2709376 % stretch in Cooledit or whatever audio editing program you are using otherwise audio will not match the video fps change.

However, you do realize that your dvd most likely will play Pal resolution and fps SVCDs just fine right? I made a 25 fps SVCD with Pal resolution and it played on the standalone DVD player (native NTSC) just fine (BTW Go.Video DVR5000 sux don't buy it - played it once and refused to play it again ever again).
