Guys,
any stand-alone players out there that play MP3s or show images from
DVD(+R/+RW) ? They all do it from CDs. How hard can it be to play
them also from a DVD. I would like to put 900+ mp3 and my DigiCam pics onto a DVD instead of using 7 CDs.
If anyone has a player / knows one that does that please post the model.
Thanks,
Oli

AFAIK there isn't any players that support raw mp3 or jpeg on DVD.
I made one(sort of) with TMPGEnc(converting mp3 to mpeg-1) and Sonic MyDVD(menus and burning).I was able to put 140 songs on one DVD-R but you can get more on a cd(depending on bitrate)and a mp3 cd is compatible with my players. Here's a link for DVD-Audio:http://www.digitalaudioguide.com/faq/dvd-audio/faq_intro.htm -
Thanks,
I am in contact with the guys from Cyberhome, they are working on the problem and will post a BIOS upgrade for download when it works.
The player just has to support the DVD-ROM mode. Can't be that hard.
140 MP3 on a DVD-R is a waste, I already am able to put almost 200 on a 700 MB CD-R. I can't believe no one was designing that from the beginning to support those features, it's a logical step. CDs are just too small !!! I wonder when the portables will support that. Can't wait to put my MP3 DVD into my car. -
Owners of older Taiwan built Sampo players have had this capability for a while now, although it's all unofficial
It's called the MaxiCD option, enabling owners to put raw .mpgs, .mp3s, .jpgs and .vobs onto a DVD-R and tricking the player to play it back as a CD
Owners can patch this capability into the Sampo DVE631CF firmware theselves. See here -
Oh doo doo hole man danggit dudes. I had a great idea too man i wanted make a dvd with mp3 songs on it and have the menu/chapters as the cd album cover so if u wanted to hear a song just hit menue and go to the chapters and just click on the album cover picture. In TMPGEnc(don't use the wizard)load your MP3 in the audio box and insert a .jpg or .bmp photo(optional)in video, load VCD or DVD template,
select mpeg-1 or 2,reduce video bitrate to 600kbps CBR and audio bitrate
to 384kbps.All these settings may be useless because your authoring software may transcode your audio to PCM and a higher video bitrate in that case you will get less songs on a DVD. -
You're not ignorant, it's just me being unclear I think.
HTPC=Home Theater Computer (PC)
It doesn't need to be expensive and fancy nor ugly. -
Oli72:
The Apex 1200 that I have reads Mpeg1 video clips (any resolution that I've tried, including 160x120) and jpeg images from DVD-R. I don't see any reason it won't do mp3. I just started burning a data disc like 10 minutes ago before I read this message, otherwise I would have put an mp3 on it to confirm but I do have another 3 or 4 discs to burn so I will do that and let you know the results - maybe even tonight. I'm pretty sure the 1200 reads +R discs as well as -R.

SonicDVDit! PE will take a 720x480 BMP and allow you to link an audio file (48khz, 16, x2) and it will act like the image is a video clip. I did one to test it and with 5 - 1 meg BMP's (plain white with a number on them) and 5 short wav files, encoded the audio to 224Kbit AC3 and the DVD folder was like 2 megs. -
Yes, I am currently listening to Rammstein mp3's burned on a DVD-r, and jpgs work too.

My Norcent DP-300 purchased at Walmart for $58 plays MP3, MPG-1, MPG-2, JPG, etc. on CD-R/RW AND DVD-R/RW. Trust me, this was my sole purpose for buying this unit. How cool to have 4.4GB of MP3's (big 'ol jukebox!) The Norcent DP-300 also has a musical slideshow mode, where you can choose mp3's and jpg's from the disk and it will play them as a slideshow!!! How cool. Are there any $300 DVD players out there that will do this? I don't think so, Tim.
I'm not sure of the availability of this Norcent DP-300 at Walmart, but if I came across another one, I'd pick it up as a spare. Only cost as much as 3 Hollywood DVDs! -
I find it quite ironic as well that the cheapest players will play anything and some of the more expensive ones are turning out to be junk - (my Pioneer 434, my friends Denon 2800 - nothing but problems.
