  1. Forgive me if this is covered in another post or in a tutorial. If so, please point me in the right direction...

I made my first "successful" burn of an avi file to VCD using Nero 5.5.9.0

The problem is that it made what was a letterboxed version a full screen when I burned it. I used AviSplitCalc to split the file into 2 smaller ones and then used Nero to make 2 VCDs. It would seem that the problem was in Nero's "conversion" of the avi files to the proper format to make the VCD. The finished product plays on my DVD player full-screen. It doesn't appear that it has "stretched" the movie any.

I would like to know if there's a way to keep the letterboxed format when making a VCD. Do I need to use a different program to convert the avi file first, or is there a setting in Nero that needs to be altered?

Here's the details on the avi file I tried to burn (in case it helps):

    Size is 576x304
    Frame Rate 23FPS
    Video sample rate 24 bit
    DivX encoded

If anyone can offer any suggestions, please let me know.

  3. OK, I got TMPGenc, but it seems to be making it fullscreen as well. What setting am I looking for that I need to change to keep the original letterbox format of the avi file I'm working with?

in tmpgenc under settings->advanced select 1:1 source aspect ratio and full screen keep aspect ratio under video arrange method

and it should be letterboxed if the source is that. Before you encode hit preview to see how it looks like.
