  1. I keep getting an error when I'm trying to convert from an avi. It says that it is unsupported or cannot be opened. I have installed the codecs listed on the page here and used the different versions.

  3. When the avi is a DivX it may have 48kHz mp3 audio in it. Try extracting the audio to wav (48kHz or 44.1kHz). Use the original DivX as source video and the wav as source audio in TMPGEnc. I noticed that TMPGEnc doesn't like 48kHz mp3 while it accepts 44.1kHz. With wav it appears to accept both...

  5. Lindah_premier,

DivX is not a program like notepad, Word, TMPGEnc etc. It's a codec (short for COder/DECoder). The DivX codec is very popular because it has good compression without loosing much quality. This way you can fit more footage on a CD then when you're using for instance the MPEG1 codec.
Because DivX is not a program you cannot execute it. Programs like Media Player and TMPGEnc can use this codec to play a DivX film or open it for conversion.
So all you have to do is use the installer that came with the codec. When you've installed it you can watch DivX movies or create your own.
If you want to create VCD's from DivX films, you'll have to install the codec first. Basically when you can watch the film on your PC the codecs have been installed properly.
Check out the guides under the Howto section on the left. There are guides that guide you through the process of creating VCD's.

I hope this made things clearer for you.
    Regards,

    Willem
