  1. What the hell are all these DV formats. Ther is DV type 1 and dv type 2 and canapus Dv and so on. Can anyone explain what all these formats are and spec them?

Also if i were to not load the Video CD templets in TMPGenc or any encoder what are the specs on the VCD format. I know a vcd is MPEG1 in either pal or NTSC. The NTSC is 352x 240 at 29.97fps and pal is 352x288 at 25 fps. Also the bitreate is 1150. I belive the video is non-interlaced. What other specs am i missing.

  2. This question should have been posted in the newbie section. Anyways, for an explanation of type 1 vs type 2 DV, see:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dx8_c/directx_cpp/htm...pe2dvfiles.asp

Some program only accepts type 2 DV (with a DV codec installed). However, newer programs will accept type 1 DV files. A freeware program like DVIO will allow you to capture in either DV types. Canopus has its own DV codec but I am not convinced that is useful to use it if you do not own a Canopus product.
