  1. I'm quite new to DivX encoding - unlike DVD2VCD - and I've searched this forum with no answers to my problem. So here goes:

A DivX file plays superbly on its own, but encoding it to VCD in TMPGEnc leads to no sound.

    I tried extracting/re-encoding the audio using AVI2WAV

    The DivX sample is 1m8s
    The Re-encoded WAV is 58s

    Why is this?

This difference is causing TMPGEnc to crash. (Also - of course - there are sync problems)
The DivX has the following specs:

    audio bitrate 157kbps
    MPEG Layer 3

Video framerate = 23 fps (I want to make a PAL VCD)
    Encoded with: DIVXMPEG V3

Where did you get the avi? 23 fps is non-standard video rate. 157 kbps is a non-standard audio rate.
