Will Macrovision kick in for home made DVD-R? In other words, if I make my own DVD-R will I be able to transfer it to VHS tape without Macrovision (assuming DVD player and VCR have it) interfering?

If you rip a DVD to your HD and create a DVD-R it will be macrovision free, assuming that left "Remove Macrovion" enabled in your ripping program.

Look at a program called DVD Decrypter it rips (extracts) a DVD disk to your HD. Remove macrovision is enabled by defualt. It puts the DVD on your HD wthout macro and then you could play the DVD files on your computer and output to your VCR macro free.
Rip in file mode and use PowerDVD to play the files.
DVD Decrypter is freeware and is available in the tools section of this website. PowerDVD you have to buy.
