Just listened to the case on the radio and he got sentenced free.
Norwegian court found that it's not illegal to watch or take a safety copy of your own DVDs that you have legally bought.

I'm glad to hear that some countries still uphold rights for the "little guys" of the world. In the US, software and record companies have way too much power when it comes to what can or cannot be done with the media that the average consumer purchases.

The whole ripping community is happy to see the result. Living in the US, I wonder what, if any, impact this will have in our country. With a major law suit against DVDxCopy, it would be nice to think that this might help? What do others think?

  7. As a human being, I do protest against world division into "zones", and any restrictions for access to any kind of information including masterpiecies of culture, arts, music, films and any other things we can name as humanity cultural heritage. I do protest against any other restrictions for access to world cultural heritage based on race, age or place of living. I do not like to be "Zone 5 inhabitant", where some rich companies will decide "Please wait, you will have a chance to see that peace of art just after some more rich regions of the world will do that".

I can not understand how such divisions of the world into "black" or "white" or "rich" or "poor" zones are tolerated in the governing bodies of what some people name "the most free country in the world". I do not advocate here for any non payments etc. I just protest the principle that people and countries are divided into zones which makes people and countries do not equal. Some songs were included into Voyager space missions currently leaving solar system just as part of our culture collection and of description what the humans are and what are humanity values. How can some company to decide what individual has access to the culture and who has not based on place of living? It beyond the scope of what is "moral".

Even if we ignore that, the whole enironment with DVD and the zones is somewhat giddiness. Why all these zones are needed if I see all of DVD players on sale have "multizone" on their labels, and nobody is buying DVD drives if they have no pathes for multizone playback. In DVD shops in my district there is about equal number of DVDs with zone 2, zone 5 and some other zones. Nobody pays attention to that zones but just some people waste the time if their player is not upgraded for multizone. Sometimes rich people and companies are really stupid in their behaviour.

He ripped the video files to his hard drive, you still need a DVD rom to do that. Once the files are on your hard drive you can play them from there. You have to be able to get them there in the first place though
