  1. I'm currently using these discs in my DMR E30. Anyone else had any experience with these discs, positive or negative? I have a chance to buy a bunch pretty cheap... I have tested a few, and they seem ok.

    Thanks everyone...

  2. These disks are actually illegal TDK Disks. ADVD info says TDK but these are not genuine TDK disks. These are a cheap disk that are using the TDK brand. I have a Sony Dru 500a burner and these disks did not work with 1.0d firmware. After I upgraded to 1.0f They worked OK.

Shintaro DVD-RW are actually Princo RW's, and they are very cheap. unreliable disks. Do not buy Shintaro RW's

If you have no problems with Shintaro DVD-r disks, then they should be OK.

These discs dont say TDK anywhere on them, how can they be 'using' the TDK brand?

  4. Unlike cd-r, all DVD blank disks, have manufacture data written on them before you buy them. ADVD info is the only program that lets you view this data. When you look at the Shintara DVD-r disks in ADVD info and select pre-record information lead-in you will see this:

    00 6A 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 98 0C 13 .J...@....P.....
    76 78 80 00 03 54 44 4B 47 30 32 00 04 30 30 30 VX...TDKG02..000
    30 30 30 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 000.............
    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

I have lost the link, but another member of Vcdhelper reported a link to the TDK web site. TDK said that these disks were not made by them, but by another company using the TDK name.
If you use genuine TDK disks, you will not see the VX in the brand name, but as you can see the Shintaro disks, they have VX in the brand name.

These disks are not only used by Shintaro, they are also used by Laser in Australia, and several other brand names world wide.
