  1. Is there such as thing as a DVCam AVI codec? I'm sure others have experienced the horribly choppy playback when playing freshly captured DVCam AVI files. Is there any way to fix this?

There's the DV codec. Whenever I use it, it plays fine. Perhaps your computer is underpowered?

  3. I get the same problem using a DV camera and firewire. Have made sure to have the DMA on the HD enabled and a high speed HD (7200 rpm) but still get the same prob. Actually I get grainy or with moving lines through it like heat waves of sorts. Sometimes there are areas that appear to have "blocky" appearance.

Braindrain, what do you mean by DV codec?

  4. Yeah, I'm talking about playing back the captured video file via FireWire from a miniDV camcorder. The file type is .avi, and it is in 720x480 in an "Unknown format." Playing it through media player results in choppy video with audio out of sync. Trying to preview it through the properties tab sends up an error, "Cannot find vids:dvsd decompressor."

If a codec exists to play back these original captured files, then we're ok.

My PC isn't underpowered... pfft. Thunderbird 1.4ghz, WD 7200 rpm 45/27 gb drives, etc etc. It can play back anything you throw at it.
