  1. Hey everyone ... well, my capturing is coming along well, finally got win2k + ati + virtual dub working ... finally can say goodbye to ATI digital VCR junk

Anyways, im curious what the best way to capture with a minimal amount of interlacing effects is? What i mean by this is ... im capturing everything to uncompressed AVI at 29.97fps, 480 Vertical. As we all know, you get nifty interlacing effect on many frames. Well, im currently using "deinterlace->double" in TMPGenc when i encode the AVI down to 240 vertical res. Ive noticed though that this doesnt make panning scenes (vertical or horizontal) look much better than if i just captured at 480, but used Virtual Dub "vertical reduction->2:1 linear" such that my final captured AVI was 352x240 (instead of 352x480).

No matter what i do, i cant seem to get captures that retain smoothness during panning scenes. They always seem to jerk a little here and there. Even if i capture 480 (thus getting frames with interlacing effects) and then use deinterlace->double in TMPGenc, i still get jerkiness.

    Any ideas?

  2. I'm far from being an expert on this, but if the final resolution is 352x240, why not just capture at that resolution using VirtualDub's custom format rather than converting the resolutions later?

  3. I actually found a very good thread answering my question:

My problem has to do with interlaced video source ... if i grab at lower res (240) my capture card ends up effectively de-interlacing the video, which is not exactly what i want.
