I periodically convert various MPG/MPG2/AVI files into VCD-ready MPEG files just so I can watch them on a larger screen. I recently discovered that the latest version of TMPGEnc wouldn't open most of my newer AVI files. I tried again with an earlier version. No luck. Then I went to my wife's computer (formerly my computer), and found three even older versions. The most ancient of these - version 1.2 - had no problem processing the majority of the files.
Any idea why 2.x was choking, while 1.2 had no probs?
