  1. I need some help in picking a burner.

I have about $500 usd and I wish to spend no more than half if possible if not well then I can't buy my snazzy new video capture card I want soon!

Ok my computer is running on Windows ME has a 1ghz processor 256k of ram and a large enough hard drive. so I can handle what I throw at it, if it can't handle I can upgrade.

I am just not sure about which dvd burner I should buy, my dvd player is an Apex 1000 that has been flash upgraded to a 1500 version. So I need to know which media is best used on this specific player. Do I use -R/RW or +R/RW? I would prefer having one that came with nero. Otherwise the software will visit the local receptacle. Please help. Thank you.

  2. The current darlings are the Pioneer A05 (or 105, same thing OEM) and the Sony DRU-500A. If you want opinions on these do a forum search as there is alot of good and a few negative comments on both mainly on what types of media they like & don't like. There are also some deals on +R/+RW only drives if you want to save some money. The Sony (the only dual drive in mass market) is somewhat scarce and around $350 when you can find one. Pioneer less, +Rs even less (except HP go figure).

The Apex units generally like all media. My true Apex 1500 liked my first DVD-R on the Sony and I'm encoding home footage now. I believe the DVD Players section states that +R media works well also but you'll want to read up on it in that section.

So read up based on your findings pick one & enjoy.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
