to disk?? I downloaded a movie and its in VCD image format; would like to watch it without burning it to disk first. Is this possible?? I used WinIso to open the image file and extracted the files in a folder; went into the MPEGAV folder and double-clicked on the .dat file but WMP doesn't play it, says it doesn't recognize the format.
Any help would be most welcome. Thanks!!

It says AVSEQ01 DAT File and when I try to rename it to .mpg it says AVSEQ01.mpg DAT File (I can't remove the "DAT File" thing) and it still doesn't play. It is associated with WMP since it has this icon, but not the typical WMP icon; a white rectangle with the WMP sign in the middle of it.

sounds like you have the extensions hidden by windows... go into tools/folder options/view in explorer and uncheck the 'hide extensions' option.
In any case, you can always send it to the media player in two ways.
1. right click and choose 'open with' and then select media player
2. open media player and drag the file onto it. -
With your folder extention hint I did manage to have the file now changed to .mpg and it also has the WMP icon but when I click on it, WMP still doesn't play it. Maybe a missing codec???
Thanks! -
I tried to have Picaview play it but it says It can't because a driver or codec may be missing.......at least Picaview tells us a bit more.
WMP only says that the format isn't supported. -
Try this then. Right click the AVSEQ01.DAT, select Open With then select mplayer, mplayer2 or mediaplayer, whatever the option is, in your version of Windows.

The file IS associated with WMP. Before I posted I tried to find info on this site and found something to the effect of "double click the .dat file and associate it with WMP, it will then play it"...I did that and WMP is the preffered player, just, it doesn't play the file.

Sounds like one of these read the guides case:

I did that and converted the DAT file to a MPEG file but when WMP starts up it doesn't play it, either...says "ClassFactory, can not supply requested class"... Oh, boy...

Open the dat file with some kind of a DVD player like PowerDVD or MicroDVD Player. You can download free DVD players from this site's Tools link on the left.

the easiest way to convert the DAT file, to an mpeg to watch b4 burning it to a disc is to download and install VCDgear. This will convert the Dat file into an mpeg file on the hard drive.
Don't forget to disable the file splitting option...( options, disable mpeg file splitting)
Hope this helps you out......the home page is www.vcdgear.com
