  1. Hello,
I have a Dell P3 933B with 256MB ram, 40GB drive, 12x DVD-ROM, 8x CD-RW, Windows 98 SE, Nvidia GeForce 256 AGP graphics card with 32MB ram and directx 7.0. In the near future I'll be purchasing the Sony DRU500a burner to replace the CD-RW. I'll mainly use it to backup DVDs,
record CD-Rs, and backup data. Also will dabble in some basic DVD authoring. Do you folks think I should/need to upgrade directX to 8.0a or maybe the relatively new 9.0 ? I have used info/guides and freeware (
TMPGenc, SmartRipper, Virtualdub, DVD2avi, etc etc )to create VCDs, and
RealProducer Basic to creat RealAudio movies, successfully with this config. My feeling right now is to leave it alone unless a specific app requires an upgrade. Any input/comments that may save me future headaches are much appreciated. 8)

    Thanks !

  4. Yeah, that's what I thought most folks would say. I just wanted to know if there are any known issues/quirks or other weirdness that people may have experienced when ripping/burning/authoring DVDs with directX 7.0 as opposed to newer versions. Thanks for the replies so far and for any future feedback on this !
