  1. It seems like my last thread dissapeared, so I'll try again!

I have created two slideshows with holiday-pictures.. One is in the form of an SVCD-movie (.bin/.cue), and another in the form of an autorun PC-slideshow.

So, if I burn these on seperate cd's, they both start up automatically, when inserted in a dvd-player and computer, respectively.
    - But how do I put them on the same CD?

I have tried putting the contents in my .bin on a CD; along with the data for my PC-slideshow - when I insert this CD in our standalone DVD-player, it just plays the two mp3-tracks on the CD. But it works perfectly when I insert into my computer DVD-drive! And the PC-part works perfectly too....

So how do I get it working on both my PC and a standalone DVD player?

  2. The S/VCD structure takes priority. You can't just go copying files off a SVCD and expect that to work (it doesn't) as you've destroyed the physical structure/layout of the disc.

Fortunately, S/VCDs allow for additional files to be put into the filesystem. If you are using VCDEasy, then click on:

    S/VCD --> ISO Files

On this screen, you can put additional files onto your filesystem. Remember, VCDImager 0.7.12 (which is the backend of VCDEasy) only supports ISO Level 1 file names so you will be limited to 8.3 names.

If you author your own XML, you can use the <folder> and <file> tags to add files into the filesystem: http://www.michaeltam.com/general_xml_structure.html#filesystem

If you do author your own XML, then you can use lkVCDxBUILD (use GNU VCDImager Tools GUI) to create S/VCDs with the filesystem using ISO Level 2 filenames (i.e., can use long filenames with some restrictions).

As long as you do this, the S/VCD will remain compliant and will play on your stand-alone player as it normally does.

To get stuff on the disc to autorun when you put it on a PC, then you should write an autorun.inf file and put it in the root directory of the disc.

The Official VCDHelp.com PAL/NTSC Demo Video-CD was built using lkVCDxBUILD and also uses long filenames and also autoruns on the PC (it loads up an html document).

  3. Hi.. thanks for your reply!

I downloaded VCDEasy.. but I really don't find it any "easy"
It will not let me just put my own SVCD-entries in it's SVCD folder, so I can't just import the menu I already have made, into VCDEasy, and then burn! It seems I have to make my own menu in VCDEasy, and as they say themselves on their homepage: that is NOT easy.... and nor does it look easy! And as you said, it only accepts filenames in the 8.3 form-factor - this makes browsing the CD very messy, because of the short folder and filenames...

Isn't there anyway I can use my already made menu? It must be contained in the .cue or .bin somewhere, can I import it somehow, maybe with another program?

I tried loading up Nero, and loaded the Super VideoCD procedure - I found it it lets me add files before I burn, so I did this... it renamed all of my stuff though, turned "-" into "_", which rendered my PC-autoplay menu useless.. I could fix this by creating one to fit the new filenames, if only the DVD part of the disc had worked - my standalone player STILL just began playing the two mp3 tracks contained on the CD... (they're not even in the root dir)...

I hope you still can help me ..

VCDEasy does not "load" a previously made S/VCD project. In fact, no S/VCD authoring program does this.

It seems I have to make my own menu in VCDEasy, and as they say themselves on their homepage: that is NOT easy.... and nor does it look easy!
Actually, it is quite simple and the results are much better than what Nero tries to do. Remember, less automation also means more control over the process.

Only if you don't create your content with this in mind. Take a look at your Windows installation disc. Eveything is ISO Level 1...

As I stated, no program can do this. You can use VCDXRIP to decompile a S/VCD image into the component media files as well an XML descripter file. You can then edit the S/VCD PBC structure as you wish -- but not with any automated tool. You will have to learn how to do this manually: http://www.michaeltam.com

It seems to me that Nero is not correctly creating your SVCD (if you are indeed using the SVCD wizard). As for renaming "-" to "_", it is because even on ISO Level 2 filenames, you have a restricted character set (and "-" is not allowed). We've been spoilt on Joliet type filenames on a CD...

The best way to accomplish what you want is to use VCDImager / VCDEasy. Try and learn how to create menus with VCDEasy. It is really quite simple and the results are much better than Nero. The stuff on the filesystem will be restricted to ISO Level 1 so you will have to author the PC content appropriately.

As I mentioned in my above post, if you author your own XML, you can use lkVCDxBUILD (with GNU VCDImager Tools GUI: http://www.michaeltam.com/vcdimager_tools_gui.html ) to make your CUE/BIN images of your SVCD and use ISO Level 2 filenames.

  5. Hmmmmm........ I guess I'll have to try.. It just looks so terribly difficult and time-consuming..

"Input the frame number for the first frame that comes after your intro. Remember that this is the same number that we used when adding the numbers in VirtualDub and the same frame number that we used in TMPGenc when adding the I-Frame. This is also the same number that you were supposed to write down. If you need to refresh your memory click here and here."

argh... and the links "here and here" don't even work =)

  6. The quote just above looks like it's from ?adam's advanced menuing guide?

You probably don't quite need it for what you want to do in your description...
