My capture card cannot capture correctly mono sound when capturing video from a mono source (an old VHS camera). In the resultin stream one of the sound track is mute. However, I need mono (both tracks playing the same sound (or whatever; I'm not an expert)) sound in my mpeg files. Is there any way to change the stereo sound of a captured mpeg video stream into mono?

Thanks a lot for your help.

  2. If you are capturing to an AVI file (with uncompressed PCM audio), then use VirtualDub to save the audio to a wav file.

Then, use an audio editing program (any good one will do but I recommend Cool Edit 2000) to cut out the silent channel and save a new mono wav. Then, use your MPEG encoder to load the video from the original AVI and load the audio from this WAV file.

If you are capturing to an MPEG file, then use TMPGEnc to demux to the elemental video and elemental audio files.

Use Winamp (or similar proggy) to decode the mpeg audio to uncompressed pcm (WAV). Then do the same as above.

Re-encode your audio to MPEG with the appropriate settings (for example, use TMPGEnc).

Remux your original elemental video with your new elemental audio.

    Regards.

Do you think the free Audacity
    (http://audacity.sourceforge.net)
would be fine for editing the audio track as described by vitualis above?
