making (working!) menu help with DVDWS

hello,
i have made 2 DVDs so far, which will play on a dvd player, so that is a start
But when i create a menu and try to scroll through on the DVD it doesnt seem to work. In the preview it will work, but when i put it onto DVD i cannot see what the cursor is on.
I have tried with both DVDWS and DVDMF and i get the same thing happening.
It cannot be a colour contrast because the colour i choose for "button state colours" is yellow/orange and my background is blue. the attributes is set to "both" as in placeholder and frame.
What am i doing wrong? why can i use the scroll/arrows properly in the preview but not the final DVD i create.
