Hey all,
Looking to put together a DVD Ripping machine, as my 500Mhz ain't cutting it anymore. Its suffcient for everything else, but not DVD/(s)VCD stuff. So I was just wondering what kinda times everyone gets when trying to encode the average DVD-9 to DVD-5 with TMPGenc, with the following chips
1Ghz
1.5Ghz
2Ghz
2.5Ghz
Thanks!![]()

Tell you what... a good question but for any kind of video/photo manipulation you need to purchase the most processor/RAM you can afford

Im using an
AMD Athlon XP2000+
512 Ram
120 Gig HD
Liteon DVD Drive
Pioneer A05
DVD2DVDR 1.3
CCE
Ifoedit & or Maestro
Stomp Record Now Max
A 2 pass VBR usually takes from ripping to burning around 9 hrs my only concern is main movie I dont bother with the extras -
I don't use tmpeg, but with CCE it takes roughly 1.5X-1.7X Realtime. I have an XP2100+ and Soyo Dragon KT333 MB though. There are some instances (Like extremely good source) that will hit as much as 3X realtime. This is of course single pass, but at DVD bitrates 4000-6000 single pass is more than enough.

Athlong XP 2200+ with 512DDR333 memory. Using CCE a 2 hour video encode takes about 3 and a half to 4 hours. Thats 2 pass VBR.
Thats transcoding a movie from DVD to DVD, seems to me that encode times depend alot upon their source files. I can do DV video to DVD Mpeg a little faster then real time usually. -
Pentium IV 2.4Ghz 512MB PC-800
Takes about 3 hours for constant bitrate (no passes). Haven't tried with passes yet since no-passes delivers very good quality either and don't take that long
