I'm trying to create an XVCD from a DVD (NTSC film) source, one that contains nonstop action. Even with stationary subjects, the camera is in constant motion. I'll be playing the XVCD on a Panasonic RV32 DVD player, which has a maximum data rate of about 2500 Kb/s for a CD-R/CD-RW source. What would be the best TMPGEnc settings to minimize motion artifacts? I'm willing to accept a standard VCD pixel resolution if necessary. The program only runs about 30 minutes so the final file size isn't the first consideration. Thanks in advance.

  2. Basically its all about bitrate. The higher the bitrate, the less compression artifacts you will see. Lowering the resolution (for a specific bitrate) will allow 'more bits per pixel' for want of a better description and will help in terms of blocks etc but its really up to you if it looks better than the higher res version. Using the 'soften block noise' option in Tmpgenc will reduce blockyness at the expense of picture sharpness. Basically the best bet is to do a few test encodes of short clips with different settings until you find waht you like best.

    Hope this helps.
