I just purchased xXx on DVD tonight. I get home and stick it in my Apex 500 player that has a region-free and macrovision disabling chip in it and a screen pops up in place of the Root Menu telling me that the disk cannot be played on modified players and can only be used in Region 1 machines. What the hell is this crap?
The MPAA can kiss my ass first of all. But second, is there any way around this new conspiracy? Any new hacks?

Its called RCE I believe. Some work arounds include changing the DVD player to region 1 only, not all region. Also I've heard the RCE screen isn't an endpoint, rather an alternate menu, so by pressing the correct buttons on the remote the movie will play normally.
