  1. I have learned that my Panasonic RV32 DVD player is able to play SVCDs if i use the "header trick." i have followed all of the instructions given on this website for the TMPGenc header trick using versions 2.59, and 2.5, but when the encode completes, i recieve the following message:

    "WARNING

226638 s packets cause buffer underflow.

The MPEG file might cause error when it played."

can anyone tell me what i have done wrong? Is there a way around the problem?

    Thanks a lot

That is just one of the reasons why this header trick should only be used as a last resort. You are multiplexing using a muxrate designed for VCD (1150kbits+224) but your file probably has a bitrate twice this size. This will cause desync on nearly any hardware player.

The solution is to use the Mpeg1 Video-CD (non-standard) for filetype instead. This should allow the multiplexor to use a higher muxrate and while this may prevent buffer underflows, it decreases compatibility. Like I said, the header trick should be a last resort. Keep in mind that in 5 years there might not be a single player on the market which can play these disks.

If you continue to get buffer underflows than try multiplexing with bbmpeg instead. Set the output to vcd but change the forced mux rate to 0. This means automatic, so it adjusts this level according to your bitrate so you are guaranteed to never get buffer underflows, well almost never.

  3. And what happens when even bbMPEG gives nothing but buffer over/underflows? I could have the wrong settings for bbMPEG, but I didn't think so (Select VCD, check VBR, force mux rate to 0, leave rest at default).
