  1. Hi,

Is it possible to burn a VCD or SVCD that includes the player so that for the most part when I distrubute my VCD clip it can be played on most windows systems?

I have Ulead studio and factory as well as Nero and intervideo producer3 but I see no way to do this am just asking the impossible?

    Thank you.

  2. Yes. For VCD anyway.

I have a scaled down version of a sony VCD player software, that I have included on some VCD's. When you load the disk, it will autoexecute, then will load the dat. file and play. Very simple. If anyone is really interested, reply here and I will figure out how to pass it along. At least I think that's allowed, suppose that is a new subject and thread.

    Player1:

Since any Windows system should be able to play MPEG-1 files, all you really need to do is to show the person which file (on the VCD) to open with Media Player...it is the AVSEQ01.dat in the MPEGAV folder.

The easiest way to do this is to tell them to browse to the AVSEQ01.dat in Windows Explorer, right click the file, select open with, Windows Media Player.

    hwoodwar--

While using WMP is probably the easiest way to implement software playback, this is ONLY useful if your (S)VCD is the most basic of discs. I believe what weeyoo was referring to was an actual VCD player software--which can correctly interpret MPEG stills/PBC menus and selections/etc. No standard version of WMP or it's many variants is able to do that.

There are a couple of actual VCD 2.0 player softwares out there for PC--Sony, Roxio/Cequadrat, SthVCD...
And only 1 version 2.0 player for the Mac--the defunct Query player.
All the rest are just v1.1 (tracks only).

What we all would like would be a GNU cross-platform VCD 2.0/SVCD 1.0 player. Any coder takers?

Well, this has not been the case in as much as I thought the same, some systems either have had the software hacked by for example AOL, or other programs or not configured to run media player to begin with.

So I hope I can find away to do this.

    Thanks for the reply though.

    also hwoodwar--

If you really want to use the Windows Media Player, and you are giving the disc out to people, a much slicker way is to create an *.ASX text metafile (which is associated with WMP), and use that as the object in an AUTORUN.INF file. Then put those instructions you were mentioning into an extra Readme.txt file. This helps cover all the bases. You know, people who've turned off autorun, changed associations, etc.

Check some of my past posts on this subject for more info.

    Good luck,

    Scott

  9. Player1, please read the suggestions people have already given you. You have been given the way to find the answer.

    Search for Cornucopia's older posts.

You will need to create an autorun.inf file and include it on the root directory of the VCD -- it is detailed in his older posts. Use the "search" function on the terms he gave you previously.

Thanks But thats not the answer to my question.

I need software on the cd that will play the Mpeg files as I explained in my replays that I made if you read them.
    But Thanks, really!

  11. I was looking at Videolan (see tools link) for something like that. I have not really looked at it but thoughts were:

Runs w/out installing (not everyone has admin privileges), so could put executable directory on CD. Does SVCD, & DVD so would think would do DVD.

If anyone does try it, would be interested in results.
