  1. I just built a new Win 2000 machine and loaded the Kristal Studio codecs along with the Divx 3.11 and 4. After I upgraded to WMP 7.1 all avi files that I try to play have major problems. The speed is very fast and the audio comes out jumpy. Mpg's play fine along with wav files. I noticed when I tried to encode a avi with TMPGE that there is no audio file loaded. I built this machine mainly for vcd encoding and storage so this is a very frustrating situation. The specs on the machine are:
    Dual PIII 750
    1.5 gig PC133 ram
    3 WD 40 gig ATA 100 drives
    SB Live Platinum
    Diamond Stealth S540 32mg video

    Help!!
    Thanks

  2. First, look and see if you have the same issue with WMP 6.4.

  3. I just check and the same problem is occuring with WMP 6.4. I also removed the DIVX 4 codec and the problem is still occuring. I'm going to try and see if I can remove all the codecs and re-install them to see if that cures this problem. If anyone can think of any other troubleshooting issue please let me know.

    Thanks!

  4. The Savage4 is downgrading your video performance. WMP drivers seem to stablize system performance; as opposed to brooktree stablizing video, but would often lockup a system.
I'd try a Nvidia 2 card as a bare minimum.
Also look for a memory manager that will clear and reclaim memory everytime a program is closed. I'm using Win98/DirectX 8 and they are notorious on the 2 machines I record on for causing sink problems. Needless to say I've removed my S540iii from these machines and placed it on my son's system/TV along with a Haupauge WinTV card (due to lack of mpeg generation & poor 3rd partly software compatibility).
Also check and see if "Vfw to WDM Wrapper" will help straighten out things any.

    System 1:
    AMD 800 mHz @ 100 mHz (KT7)
    ATI TV-Wonder w/ MMC 7.1 drivers
    RAMidle: Memory/cache Manager
    Win98/DirectX 8

    System 2:
    AMD 1200 mHz @ 133 mHz (KT266 w/DDR)
    ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder w/ MMC 7.1 drivers
    RAMidle: Memory/cache Manager
    Win98/DirectX 8
