Hi folks. I'm contemplating using a PC to encode MPEG2 video and am curious about speed. Can anyone post experience encoding MPEG2 using TMPGEnc or another encoder? I'd like to know how quickly a Pentium/Athlon around 2GHz can encode MPEG2 VBR 1 pass or 2 pass using an MPEG2 as the source file, i.e. lowering the bit rate. I heard that someone using a P4 2GHz needed 30 hours to compress a 2hr movie to MPEG2 using VBR 2 pass. Is that a typical time? Seems a bit long.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
