Burning VCD, after encoding from divx

Ok here is what I did, and am trying to do. I had "the_ring_(aka_ringu)_(jap_horror)_(english_subbed )_(full_divx).avi" and used TMPGEnc to convert to mpg using the tutorial found here here at VCDHelp concerning divx to vcd. I then used the tutorial found here at VCDHelp to convert the mpg to a burnable version of bin and cue files with VCDEasy. My dvd player (Apex 3201) reckognizes the cd as being a vcd (says VCD upper right screen of tv, says Play, then just says Stop, and won't do anything.) During all the conversions I did, I split the movie into halves, cut out the audio with virtualdub, I mean I did everything.. and I thought I did it right. I've followed everything exactly, and am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions at all. I'd really like to be able to figure this stuff out so I can move on from there and hopefully learn more. Sorry - Also, used Nero to burn. File - Burn image - select the bin file, open the cue and check whether it's mode 1 or 2, set all that correctly, and then....bla. nothing. Help?
