  1. Firstly, I would like to say one my first post, thanks for all the help I have already got from the guides and forums. Well done to all.

    Secondly......

I have a problem with mpeg 2 playback and encoding. I'm wanting to re-encode a .m2v file (used tmpgenc to demux) to reduce its size. It's run length is 57min 30, but when I load it into tmpgenc, it reports a run time of 38min 43. Also when I try to play the file in WMP it reports the same time. When I go to properties in WMP it tells me that it's using the:-

    Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder

I don't have problems on my other machine which is using the

    Ligos MPEG2 Video Decoder

With the Elecard, I also get a lettle 9 square symbol in the top right hand corner of the play back and consequenlty witht the video being shorted the sound drops out of sync.

I did have another codec problem, trying to play back Xvid, but found after much searching that a green screen playback problem was down to Nimo codec pack and un-installed it as recommended, now my Xvid plays ok, but I still have this problem. I have tried re-running the ligosinstaller which is with Ulead DVDF, and I have Ligos in the enviromental settings in tmpgenc.

So I just can't work out what the problem is Is there a way that I can manage codecs? Or a simple way to choose which codecs are used and when?

Thanks for any help in advance

TMPGEnc + ... They recommend 3 codecs. Ligos, Sony and CyberLink.

I recommend you install CyberLink, Power DVD 4, its Mpeg 2 codec works very well with WMP and TMPGEnc +

Can not play MPEG-2 file I have made.
MPEG-2 file can not be played only by Windows. You need to install a DVD software such as WinDVD, PowerDVD, then you can play MPEG-2 file with Windows Media Player.
Although there are so many MPEG-2 decoder which can be installed onto Microsoft DirectShow. Not all of them can be worked for TMPGEnc.
    There are several decoder which is;
    - not stable, as a result TMPGEnc Plus looks like unstable in previous version.
    - not allow other application to use the module, as a result, TMPGEnc can not read movie file.

TMPGEnc reads MPEG-2 files only with specific official commercial legal MPEG-2 decoders made by CyberLink, Ligos and, Sony so that TMPGEnc reads MPEG-2 files most appropriate way by operating these decoders directly from TMPGEnc.
In this way, it improves the stabilities to read files, but only if one of these 3 decoders installed in your system. Other decoders can not be controlled by TMPGEnc.

  3. Thanks for your reply.

How do I get shut of this Elecard codec? ANd how do I stop other programs installing these bad codecs?

I don't have a check box in Tmpgenc for elecard, and WMP defaults to it.

    grrrrrr

    Cheers

    oops, made an edit !!

Check your settings in TMPGEnc > Option > Environment settings >VFAPI Plug-in . From there you can enable or disable plug-ins or set their priority level (Right click) to increase/decrease

Some programs wont function if you remove what they install, some hardware devices will also install these codecs. Install Power DVD 4 last should fix the problem, with a priority of 4 in TMPGEnc

  5. Re done the priorities, and seems sorted many thanks

I'll do some coding over night, and re-try the playback tomorrow.

    Thanks again
