    I have a 15 min avi. that i'd like to convert to an mpeg2/svcd but the file size is something like 340 mb's i'd like to take full advantage over the space on the cd (80 min) so i chose to do a DVD convversion instead of an svcd, now the file works and its in the same format as that of an SVCD so my question you is ... will it work as an svcd???

    No,it's header structure will be incorrect. Use Tmpeg to remux your mpg. Make sure that you select the stream type as Mpeg-2 SuperVideoCD. The new file will svcd compliant.
