I have this problem that my *.mpg files gets too big, but only this movie.
I've tried the to "How to convert" guide many times with good results, but this movie I just can't figure out.
I've got a 716MB AVI-file, and a 753MB WAV-file( made from a 94MB-AC3 file ). I'll frame serve with VirtualDub, and use TMPGEnc to make the mpg-file but I'll end up with a 2.1GB file. ???
Where did I go wrong? PLZ help.
TIA![]()

Are you creating a VCD compliant mpeg, if so the size is approximately 10mb/min. The size of the avi file is irrelevant, what is relevant is the play time of the movie. If you are getting a 2.1GB file this equates to a movie approximately 210 minutes in length.

Yes after making the mpg-file I'll usally convert it with VCDEasy.
Before I start the runtime on the AVI-file is like 1H 05M, afterwood the MPG at 2.1GB stille says 1H 05M ??? like it's been converted to some very high format??? -
Read what Craig Tucker wrote. Mpg encodeing is time sensitive. The bitrate you encode at is dictated by the length of the movie in time. The file size of your input is irrelevant. For a 65 minute encode you need a bitrate down around 1500.

OK I'm aware of the bitrate "thing" but ...
When I in TMPGEnc use the AVI-file as video-source everythings are OK: 1H 06M, but when I frameserve with VirtualDub and use the *.VDR-file as video-source, TMPGEnc says it will last approx. 4H 45M instead of 1H 45M before it's done ( and of course the file will be some like 3 times as big, because it takes 3 times as long to finish, and the bitrate are constant ).
Can it be VirtualDub which makes the stunt??? -
encoding time has absolutely no effect on file size. you may be able to use this: http://www.vcdhelp.com/calc.htm maybe that will help you fit it on a cd.

Hmm THX for all your advice, but I figured it out:
When frameserving to add subtitles; in VirtualDub select NO AUDIO, and the file size ends OK.
Never had this prob. before. Didn't think it matters, when you selected AUDIO SOURCE from antoher file in TMPGEnc.

( Just tested it again )
1. Save *.WAV-file in VirtualDub ( direct stream )
2. Renaming *.WAV file to *.AC3
3. Using Besweet to convert *.AC3 file to *.MP2 file
4. Running frameserver ind VirtualDub ( where the "AUDIO SETTING OPTION" doesn't matter as I wrote before )
5. TMPGEnc using *.VDR file for VIDEO SOURCE and *.MP2 file for AUDIO SOURCE.
And then everything works out OK.
Sorry if I confused you ( or myself ) yesterday.
THX a lot
