"Stream encoding which is invalid for a [Super] Video C

I used TMPGEnc Plus to edit out a portion of a VCD and then merge the two pieces back to one. I then used Nero to burn it, but it objected with the above error, a sign of non-compliance to the MPEG-1 standard.

I've looked but couldn't find a way to tell TMPGEnc Plus (MPEG Tools) NOT to do Stream encoding. Is there a way? I realize Nero can reencode it, but I'd rather get it right to begin with. The original VCD file (before editing) does not have this problem.

And what if I just let Nero burn it despite this problem? Is this a major or trivial deviation in terms of standalone player compatibility?

When you mux the file back together in TMPGEnc, you can choose what type of file it is. Above the area where you select the video and audio files is a drop down box with the title "type" to the left. If the file was fully VCD compliant, make sure you pick MPEG-1 VIDEO CD as the type and then mux.

That did it. I had it on the default of "MPEG-1 System (automatic)" rather than "MPEG-1 Video-CD," which outputs a stream "suitable for VCD's." I overlooked this setting entirely somehow. Interesting that the default choice is an MPEG-1 not suitable for VCD's. Thanks.
