no and no- the first one definitely wont happen, and the second one can't happen until we have some decent tools to parse ifo files. the cli dvdbackup can take out everything but the extras and just keep the film if its still under 4.3 gigs... but any form of downsamplin the video and keeping everything else intact isnt on the horizon right now.Originally Posted by pants

You can then extract any bonus features by track instead of by scene. You then import these streams into DVD Studio Pro and master your DVDs. 2) You can remove extra features of a DVD to fit it onto a DVD-R by using DVD Backup to backup the VIDEO_TS folder to the HD, and then replace the .vob files from the extra feature tracks with dummy text files with the same names. Then, burn this new VIDEO_TS folder in a new DVD in Toast, and it should play fine in any player. Do not select the buttons in the DVD's menus for the features you have removed, as they will no longer work.I like systems, their application excepted. Kai,
Testing last beta from evening of 1/17, still having the .5-.75 sec sync issue on SVCD. Tried 3 DVD's, tried a variety of mencoder versions. If this is an mencoder issue, please advise as to exactly which version should be used. Otherwise looks like the same issue from last beta...
To all,
This is going to be a great app. I'm getting very good quality on user svcd rates, and this really is a no-brainer to use. Divx also looks fantastic. Kai and Bilestyle have a good vision for this app. It's going to function a little differently (in a good way) than what everyone is used to now.
Worth the wait.

42 Rocks!!
I've only had time to try one disk with it (Original version of Rollerball). Absolutely no synch problems. About the only problem I had (and this isn't really a problem with 42) is that when you don't have enough drive space mencoder will freeze and refuse to quite until you restart your machine.
Gonna try another disk this morning. Probably one with subtitles this time. I'll check in with you later this morning Kai to get the new version. Thanks again.- Elreeko

Kai,
You and I talked about the 512 setting on mDVD and 1CD.
I converted my Cowboy Bebop DVD last night(there were no sync issues!!!), The preview came out fine in 512x384, the actual DivX itself came out at 620x480, any way u could fix that?
I think it would improve on speed and quality.
Q
To All:
This is going to chang the way of DVD conversion on the mac. Also, for those of you who have DivX movies youve downloaded, and you need subtitles for them, 42 will rip to a .sub file so you can put it into Titlab or something."Good Luck 007"

After putting in code last night to compensate for the diff versions of mencoder that we know about, this should not be an issue.
However, talk to Bilestyle and see if you can get the mencoder he uses; I'm using the latest and have not seen that problem.
If you can, list the DVDs you've tried so others can too.

However, it's all moot now. I downloaded the new mencoder/mplayer binaries that were posted yesterday or today on sourceforge, and all seems to be well again. I did an svcd and a divx encode on a DVD that gave me troubles before, all's well.
No worries mate

What programs have to be installed prior to using 42?
PS: Any words on when 42 might be out? -
Nothing really, you only need mpeg2enc, mencoder, mplayer
Thats prettymuch it.

Got a couple of dvds that will not encode even tho the terminal says they have ac3 audio. Angels and Insects freezes at the yuvscaler, as does Sanjuro (old Japanese movie) - even when telling it to choose english as a language (instead of japanese) as kai suggested.
Gummo rips, but the quality of the test file is so blocky and pixelated that it is unwatchable. If anyone else tries any of these films let me know.
Other than those 3 everything else I put through it works perfectly. Session 9 and Rollerball are perfect. Big Lebowski is still processing, but the test file looks awesome. This is definitely the app we have been waiting for.

Is there any way to put in an option to create Toast burnable .bin files of the completed project at the end (like a "preferences" choice)?

I've tested 4 DVD's (DVD --> SVCD) since yesterday, and all came off without a hitch except for one -- "Frequency". It's odd, but forty-two will create and playback the testmovie, then after I select the 'continue' button to do the whole thing, the DVD is immediately ejected with the usual term message about 'being done with the DVD, here's your DVD back'. Then the process errors out when the app tries to access the rip of the whole DVD that was never created. Very strange. Tried it numerous times.
Kai, if you need more feedback on this one, contact me via PM or chat.

[edit] if any testers have the Frequency DVD, please try an SVCD encode to confirm (or not) what I've found
[edit] Kai, I PM'd some info on this -
Kudos to Kai & B!
I have been playing with forty-two for the last week. I have tested previews of LOTR and The Matrix (transcoding to Divx). This program rocks.
Forty-Two is the tool that I have been waiting for. My hat is off to the development team!
