  1. I've just installed "VCD Easy" and it says that i can't burn CDs with that program, because i haven't got any CDRDAO-Drivers installed. I can burn CDs with every other program (Nero, CloneCD) but not with VCDEasy.
I've got an AOPEN 24x/10x/40x CD(R)-Writer. What do i need to download/where can i find the neccesary driver?

Go to CDRDAO website and see if your drive is on the supported driver list http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/index.html

It will tell you what driver to download (probably Generic MMC/raw)

Unfortunately I do not know just yet. I too have XP (Eng) and I'm reviewing some of the notes about XP compatibility (could have some issues) before I install.

I read somewhere else on this site that you can get the drivers from VCDEasy site although traffic is high there - try searching this site for CDRDAO first and see if the othere posts mention where else to download the drivers, then try google/yahoo search for Generic mmc driver

Hope this helps - Happy New Year!

CDRDAO relies needs valid/compatable drivers. Open VCDEasy, in the bottom right corner, does it say ASPI seems valid: yes, or ASPI seems valid: no? If it says ASPI seems valid: no, that is your main problem. In that case I suggest you go to: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm , download the ForceASPI drivers, install them and reboot. If after you reboot, it shows "ASPI seems valid: yes" then on the CDRDAO settings page, select generic-mmc as the force driver for the CD Writer, select your specific CD Writer in the dropdown menu for that section and check the force execution box. Now you should be able to burn using CDRDAO, which is the CD burning program built in to VCDEasy.

I made a slight mistake the first sentence of my last post. It should read: "CDRDAO relies needs valid/compatable ASPI drivers."

Also, be advised I myself am running the ForceASPI drivers under Windows XP with no problems whatsoever.

You could also create a .bin/.cue file from your .mpg file and burn it in Nero or your authoring program.

Unfortunately I have Roxio (Crappio) 5.0 which does not support cue/bin.

I think I'm getting the hang of all this complexity, but this post (and several others I have read) raises a question -- If I have Nero, why would I even fool with VCDEasy since what I hear is that Nero does it all?

Hoodwar, thank you for the confirmation regarding XP and ForceASPI. I have not found anyone else to confirm that

Ther is an aspi driver that comes with the CLADdvd ripper that works with VCD easy on xp.
Also it is a lot easier to make basic chapters and picture menus on VCDs using VCD easy than NERO.

Final Fn, if you're still reading this thread, here's a superb guide I just found that explains why ForceASPI works the way it does and how it behaves with XP and what to watch out for with newest Adaptec ASPI, very enlightening

Nero is not very good at burning CUE/BIN images. It is as simple as that. Although it doesn't regularly burn them incorrectly any more, it is still missing some abilities (e.g., it still can't burn subindicies). Furthermore, there is still the anomalous (though rare) reports of Nero burnt CUE/BIN images of VCDs not working (while with CDRDAO or CDRWin it does).

CDRDAO and CDRWin are highly recommended as both will burn CUE/BIN images of S/VCDs perfectly -- subindicies and all. I personally use CDRDAO as it is free. The Official VCDHelp.com PAL/NTSC Demo Video-CD is made with CDRDAO.

Of neither of these work, then I suggest mounting the image with Daemon-Tools and using "CloneCD" to copy it.

If this doesn't work either, only then do I recommend Nero for burning the CUE/BIN image.

    Regards.
