Evening everyone, and Happy New Year to you all.
I'm starting the new year w/ an Audio (part 2) question (see part 1)

Last year, I posted a question on this subject, this year, I'm hoping for some
improvements, if there can be (there's always room)

My quest for improving on my audio (p2) Currently, I am divX'ing around, and like
what I've come up with in video quality. I'm quite satisfied so far (per MY
encodes) using divX v5.0.2, but I do feel that v3.11 is better, less color
artifacts, but so far, my v5xx is proving much better, and so, I will be using
this version more often, in addition to, v3.11 thus far.
But, now.. I need to work on my Audio part, again.

Specs:
-----------
* Source: Satalite and DV cam home-footage (and some VCR later)
* Video device: Canopus ADVC-100
* Cap Audio is: 48 khz
* Resolution: 720 x 480

At first, I was using the built-in MPEG Layer-3 audio under Compress, in
vdub, and had my audio set to: MPEG Layer-3, and choose 40 kBits/s, 24,000Hz 5KB/s
and the quality wasn't too bad, but was probably best suited for talk shows or
something like that. But, still, the sound wasn't so bad back then. So...

Then, I was advised that Lame was better, and so, I decided to D/L it and give a go.
I've tried using latest version of Lame v3.93.1 but I found that it make
certain kinds of undesirable squeeks or squeels or something in the higher areas.

I was also advised to try HeadAC3he, and after doing so, I can't seem to manage
how to effectivly get the right settings for a final audio wave or mp3 format,
for Captures that are 48k audio, and converting it down to, for my divX encodes.

I'm having difficulty w/ choosing the right format, ie mp3, wav, mp2 ect. for
final divX encoding. I'm using wav at the moment and with Fig A. below.

So far, below is my final audio settings for a wav file in my divX encodes:
* MPEG Layer-3 at: 96 kBit/s, 44100 Hz, 12KB/s
-- -- -- Fig A. -- -- --

However, I'd like to work on getting even smaller audio filesizes than what I have
above.

On another note..
Also, I thought of an idea for us ALL. If someone could put out an audio file
in a format that we can use as a template, for measurement, based on what would
be considered (if possible) acceptable by the majority (as if) then, we all could
use that same file in our Audio testing/configurations for a final Audio file.
ie's DVD's and Captured AVI's and can be 48k and 44k etc. So, one could put out a:
* 48k audio, ie DVD or DV source
* 44k audio, ie Analog Capture or, (other formats of conversion from)
Basically, what I'm asking here is, for someone to find a good file (not to large)
and has just the right mixture of sounds we would need when we are testing or
trying to based "quality" from, when we work w/ such audio files.. ie "people lauging"
or "gunshots/explosions" or "combo of different types" etc, but something that we
could stick to using to get a better aim.

Thank you all for your input/response/tips/advices etc.
